May DHRN Seminar: Changing the narrative to achieve community-centred disaster recovery for real

David Sanderson (UNSW Sydney)

While everyone agrees that community-centred disaster recovery is the ‘gold standard’, this is rarely achieved. Drawing on international practice, this seminar will discuss the barriers to community-centred disaster recovery and how it can be better achieved.

Professor David Sanderson from UNSW Sydney has over 30 years’ experience working across the world in development and emergencies. He worked for 12 years in NGOs and consultancy, managing projects in all regions. Since joining academia in 2006 he has held full Professorships in the UK, Norway and Australia, and visiting professorships in Spain, France and the USA (Harvard University). David founded and leads the new long term independently funded initiative HowWeSurvive, focusing on improving disaster recovery.
