Arts Digital Research Seed Fund 2026

The Arts Digital Lab invites applications for the 2026 Faculty of Arts Digital Research Seed Fund.  Successful applications will receive:

  • Funding for up to 200 hours of research assistant time (made up of 10 hours of project scoping, 180 hours of work directed by the project leader, and 10 hours of project reporting), which may be split between two or more students;
  • Support to recruit research assistant(s) with relevant skills for the project;
  • Training and mentoring of the research assistant(s); and
  • Advice, skill-building and opportunities to workshop problems and ideas at our regular Digital Seed Fund workshops and Digital Humanities Research Network sessions.

We welcome applications from researchers across the Faculty of Arts, including postdoctoral fellows and staff in non-continuing roles.  Up to five projects will be funded by the Faculty in 2026, with an additional project funded by QuakeCoRE CEISMIC.

Prospective applicants are invited to attend the Digital Research Symposium on Monday 9 February, 9.30 am – 3 pm in Meremere 105, where you can hear from last years’ successful recipients about their projects, and learn how digital and data science methodologies can enhance Arts research.  Seeing the range of research funded last year may give you ideas for your own project.

The symposium will be followed by a proposals workshop on Tuesday 10 February, 10 am – 12 pm in Karl Popper 508.  At the workshop you will have the opportunity to discuss and develop your proposal ideas, and get advice from last year’s recipients and the ADL team.

The application form can be downloaded from Faculty of Arts Digital Research Seed Fund.  Applications close Monday 2 March 2026
